The current quarantine has changed the daily routine of many people. Whether you’re working from home, teaching your kids, cleaning every room of the house, or all the above, we’re speaking for everyone when we say “stir crazy” is a real feeling! Here’s how you can better take care of yourself during this difficult time:
Get Some Air
Making time to get outside daily is important to staying sane now more than ever. It’s proven that fresh air can improve your health and boost positivity. This can be anything from a walk with the family, a bike ride around the block or playing fetch with your dog. Soak up some rays of sunshine and thank us later (just make sure you’re avoiding others while you do it).
Work it Out
Whether you consider yourself a trained athlete or have never seen the inside of the gym, there are plenty of opportunities to get in reps during quarantine. Staying active not only strengthens bones and muscles but also improves overall health. Many fitness apps are adding no-equipment, at-home workouts to their programs, as well as local fitness trainers accommodating to the recent gym closures. The internet has been flooded with fitness live streams (check out the Luv Your Life app for a couple recommendations) and you don’t have to look very hard to find workout equipment sales online.
As stock is flying off the grocery store shelves, it’s important remember not to panic. The best way to stay calm amidst this hoarding food fiasco is to make a shopping list and meal prep. This not only helps you get in and out of the store quicker but also eliminates the chance that you will impulse buy food that you don’t really need. Meal planning is also a great way to take control and regulate the foods you’re eating. Nutritious meals are another great way to promote a strong immune system.
So Fresh, So Clean
With all this time spent in the comfort of your own home, do yourself (and your family/roommates) a favor and don’t forget about basic hygiene. Regular showers along with brushing your teeth and washing your hands should not be overlooked! Not only will your nose thank you but also your immune system. Proper hygiene lowers your risk of catching illnesses commonly spread through viruses and bacteria.
Take a Break
To stay positive during these stressful times, take productive breaks throughout the day. Straining your brain with work non-stop will make you feel defeated and unmotivated. Start your day by making a to-do list. As you accomplish tasks, cross them off your list. It may seem like a simple concept but these small amounts of success release dopamine. Feeling the effects of dopamine encourage you to complete another task and then another and before you know it you’ve finished an entire checklist! But don’t forget to stop working at some point. Even though your office is at home, doesn’t mean you still don’t need work/life balance.
